Recommended By: Rural Development Initiatives - RDI
To Acquire Contact: Downloadable PDF Brochure, Leadership Plenty Curriculum Design. Anita Hall Extension Educator, P.O. Box 146, Neiligh, NE, U.S.A. 68756-0146. Tel: (402) 887-5414
Notes: An introductory leadership development program for community members. Developed and supported by th PEW Partnership for Civic Change, Leadership Plenty is a national U.S. program whose goal is to identify, encourage and equip citizens from all parts of the community to play a more visible role in civic problem-solving. The multi-session program consists of nine interactive modules: 1) Finding leaders within; 2) Identifying community assets; 3) Managing groups for results; 4) Making meetings more productive; 5) Managing conflict; 6) Building strategic partnerships; 7) Moving from talk to action; 8) Valuing evaluation; 9) Communicating for change; 10) Facing the Challenges of Race and Race Relations. It assumes that we live in communities of “leadership plenty,”where plenty of people can use their untapped talents tomake their communities better places to live, work, and raise families. Strengthening leadership is about establishing newways of thinking and new patterns of behavior in a community, rather than hoping that if we just wait longenough or interview enough candidates, the right person willcome along with all the answers. Leadership Plenty embracesthe belief that people from different backgrounds can andmust work together, and this program provides the toolsneeded to prepare individuals for the task. A typical group will have 15 to 25 participants and will be led by a facilitator. LeadershipPlenty trainings are adaptableto local community needs and participant schedules. Each of the 10 modules is about 5 hours, except for the 8-hour practicum session on the challenges of racism and racerelations that takes place at the end of training. All sessions are interactive, encouraging discussion and offering opportunities to practice the skills being taught.
